Allotment - Moved some vegetables into Allotment Greenhouse and Covered Plants due to Frost Expected.

Today I went down the Allotment and transferred the old mini Greenhouse from the Home Greenhouse into the one down the allotment for extra staging. I also transferred some crops out of the Home Greenhouse and into the Allotment Greenhouse. I also covered up all the Fruit Trees with fleece round the polytunnel because a frost is expected overnight and many are beginning to come into bloom. I also noticed some of the potatoes are beginning to appear so have fleeced them over because it was getting dark and couldn't see them so could not earth them up. I also noticed my Radishes that I sowed last week are finally beginning to show.

Went down the Allotment

Today I went down the allotment with my Dad and he made up the potting table for the Greenhouse. This has now been put in the Greenhouse and looks very smart inside. We also fitted a waterbutt to one side of the greenhouse guttering but realised the greenhouse needs leveling further due to water sitting in the guttering. I also cleared out the big chest box down the end of the allotment from conduit piping that is not being used and this will be thrown away and took some old twine from the Garage along with other bits down to the allotment. I am also thinking about getting a small shed I can store some little pieces in and taking the raised beds which are dismantled at the present moment out of the big chest box and putting them outside and putting all my nets in there.

I also took the environmesh net home and put it in a bucket of water with warm water and Jeyes Fluid. I then put it into the washing machine and span it off by then it was nearly dry.

I also went back down the allotment at 5pm until 7.45pm and rotivated over the piece of plot where the carrots and parsnips will be sown. I sowed 2 rows of parsnips 'Tender & True' 1ft apart and in the middle of the two rows I sowed a row of Radish 'Sparkler 3'. I also put the environmesh net overtop using the blue MDPE pipe which were on the raised beds.

Potatoes Planted Finally!

Today I spent about 1 hour 1/2 of the evening being able to finally to plant my potatoes into the allotment. I first tilled over the plot using my Mantis Tiller then I took out furrows using the furrow attachment of the tiller. I then put Horse Manure into the furrows and planted two rows of First Early Potato 'Rocket' 2ft between the rows, 12 inches between each potato and 6 inches deep meaning I could fit 13 potatoes in each row with a foot left at the end of each row. I then covered these and will earth them up as needed. I will also buy some fleece in the near future to also cover them to protect them from any frost.

Allotment Greenhouse construction

Today me and my Dad spent about 5 1/2 hours constructing a base for the greenhouse and erecting the Greenhouse. As seen in the picture below it hasn't quite been finished yet as the polycarbonate panels need to be fitted as well as the door being made up and fitted. The base also needs levelling up. Allotment Greenhouse

I was going to start to build up the brand new Greenhouse down the Allotment today but along with my mum we measured between the raised beds and found out we only have 5 1/2 foot of space which would not be enough for the 6 x 6 greenhouse. I instead decided to half the two raised beds and therefore instead of them being 1 metre wide they are now 1/2 metre wide. I have also stacked the middle raised bed from where the Greenhouse is going onto the other green raised bed making it slightly deeper. I also decided I would take up the raised bed from under the arch so that I have more space to walk into the Greenhouse. I will put some concrete slabs down as well as some chip bark to make it feel more open. I have about 9 foot between the two raised beds now so will chip bark down the side of the greenhouse both sides. The Green raised bed which was under the arch has been put onto the other green raised bed to make it deeper and I have also decided I am going to order some more plastic lengths for the terracotta raised beds in order to make them deeper too and therefore give the same appearance. The Greenhouse will now be built tomorrow (weather permitting)

Rotivated Allotment Plot

Today I went down the Allotment for 4 1/2 hours and found the Walk in Greenhouse had been blown over so I have now put this back up and used guylines. I have also started to sort out the edging round the paths of the raised beds and have started to put some logs in to show the edging clearer. I have rotivated the whole plot using the Mantis Tiller and Me and Dad fitted the Plough attachment to the rotivator. I also cut the back edge of the plot to make it straight with the fruit cage and have marked out where the bean trench needs to go and have created a shallow furrow there using the plough attachment. The soil conditions appear to be great however due to the weather I am still unable to put anything in because the ground is still too cold. The bean trench now needs to be dug when possible.
